Mike Piazza, the former American Major League Baseball catcher and 12-time All-Star who is often regarded as one of the best-hitting catchers of all time, lit the Empire State Building with the Italian flag colors, to celebrate the National Italian American Foundation’s (NIAF) mission and educational programs across the US. The initiative occured the day after the celebration of Italy’s National Day (June 2nd). Those that attended were able to take some pictures not only of the incredible views, but also pictures with the champion Mike Piazza.

United States recognizes Italy Republic Day

President Barack Obama extended Republic Day greetings to Italy, hailing the great partnership between the two nations and the friendship between their peoples. Secretary of State John Kerry issued the following congratulatory message: “On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I send warmest wishes to the people of Italy as you celebrate Republic Day on June 2. “I have always felt a very special, personal connection to Italy and its people, dating back to my travels in Italy as a young college student. That bond has only strengthened over many visits this past year.

‘Glee’ star Lea Michele: I’m Italian!

Actress Lea Michele has made headlines around the world after revealing that she drank alcohol as a toddler. When asked about the confession, which she made in her new book ‘Brunette Ambition’, the 27-year-old explained that as an Italian family it was typical to have alcohol on the table.

Over 30,000 people attend Italian heritage festival in the suburbs of Philadelphia

People of all ages flocked to Rose Tree Park, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, on Sunday for the 5th Annual Italian American Heritage Festival in Media, PA. The one-day event attracted more than 30,000 people to enjoy a day in celebration of Italian heritage and culture. With a wide variety of Italian music, food, wine, and fashion along with family offerings there was a little something for everyone at the Festival! The Festival’s mission is to celebrate Italian heritage, culture, authors, music, artists, entertainment and the contributions Italian Americans have made in Delaware County.

Giuseppe Rossi cut from Italy World Cup squad

New Jersey-born Giuseppe Rossi has been was left out of the Italy World Cup squad , along with the injured Riccardo Montolivo, as coach Cesare Prandelli named his final 23-man roster for Brazil. It is the second time Rossi has missed out on Italy’s World Cup squad after being cut from the team’s provisional roster ahead of the 2010 World Cup.


It took a tough woman to make a tender home

Grandma on the right, her second marriage in 1920 after the death of her first husband. 
She was a widow with three kids.

My grandmother Maria Carmela came to this area from the town of Tricarico, Italy. The daughter of a tight-knit Italian family, she and her siblings came to America after her parents had both died of influenza.
